Lithuanian and Singapore energy regulators have exchanged the views on natural gas sector regulation

On 5th December, 2017, the Singapore energy regulator – Energy Market Authority – and the Norwegian company „Hoegh LNG“ representatives visited the NCC. In particular, the issues concerning Lithuanian natural gas sector regulation were presented to the guests‘ delegation, as well the progress concerning common Baltic natural gas market creation. The delegation was briefed as well about the pricing methodologies, reliability standarts applied in the gas and electricity sectors, the infrastructure projects implemented and currently being under implementation in Lithuania and in the Baltic region.

Energy Market Authority representative has made the presentation on the regulated sectors and the role of the energy regulator in fostering the competition in the energy sector and the reliable and secure energy supply and functioning of infrastructure. In order to ensure the security of supply and taking into account the role of gas in the fuel mix for electricity generation (95 percent of electricity generated using natural gas), the liquefied natural gas terminal has been commissioned in Singapore from 2013. As a result in a common discussion the delegations have exchanged their views on the necessary regulatory decisions taken for the functioning of that type of infrastructure in Lithuania and in Singapore.
