The Sector of Renewable Energy Resources 2015


Market players

In 2015, the number of the power plants using the renewable energy resources reached 2 355, among these 87.9 percent were the solar power plants, 4.2 – the hydro power plants, 6.2 – the wind power plants. The biogas and biofuel power plants covered an insignificant share in the market structure – 1.7 percent.

Quantities

The quantity of electricity produced in 2015 by using the renewable energy resources equaled 1 611 GWh: the biggest quantity of electricity was produced in the wind power plants – 50.1 percent, and in the hydro power plants – 21.4 percent. The quantity of electricity produced in the biofuel power plants and in the biogas power plants constituted 23.9 percent, in the solar power plants – 4.6 percent.

In 2015, the installed capacity of the power plants producing and supplying to the networks the energy produced from the renewable energy resources reached 723.4 MW: the installed capacity of the solar power plants was 69.6 MW, the wind power plants – 435.2 MW, the hydro power plants – 127.9 MW, the biofuel power plants – 64.1 MW, of the biogas power plants – 26.7 MW. The biggest share in the market structure of the total installed capacity was held by the wind power plants – 60.2 percent, the smallest – by the biogas power plants (3.7 percent).

Support

The production of energy from the renewable energy resources is supported through the Public Service Obligations (PSO). In 2015, this amount equaled EUR 84.258 million.  

Investments

In 2015, the investments in the sector of the renewable energy resources reached EUR 1.1 million, from this amount 86.1 percent were the investments in the electricity production facilities, 13.9 percent – other investments related to electricity production.
